Member of the All-Party Consultation Group on Commemorations

Senator Daly was honored to be part of the All-Party Decade of Commemorations Working Group for the 1916 remembrance celebrations. Mark was appointed as the representative for the Houses of the Oireachtas. The centenary of the Rising was marked by Community Engagement, Educational, and Commemorative events. 2016 saw the celebration of the ordinary yet extraordinary men and women who did an extraordinary thing on an ordinary day.  They wrote another chapter in the book of Irish Independence; a book whose final chapter is yet to be written.

The citizens engagement in the shape and direction of the lead up to and in the year of the commemoration are an integral part of the group’s work. Members of the public were invited to contact Mark to discuss their ideas. Mark also consulted the Smithsonian Institution in Washington regarding renovation of the GPO in Dublin for the centenary celebration.
